I jsut have a few questions about taking photography in college and what
schools are knows for their photography courses. What kind of degreee
should you get if you want to be a professional photographer? Is a
masters always better than a BA? Can a school like Brooks Institute
offer you a better education than another college? Any other info is greatly appreicated. Another question that i have that
is semi-related to this subject is internships. Is it possible for a
High School Junior like myself to possibly work with a newspaper
photographer or photojournalist in my area? I live in Sacramento, CA, so
I was thinking of asking the newspaper here (Sacramento Bee) what kind
of programs they had if any.
---------------------
Well, I went to the University of Kentucky for a little while. They
don't have much as far as photojournalism classes. What they do have,
which is very unique is a news paper that publics **EVERY DAY THERE
ARE CLASSES**. They have produced a number of top photojournists,
includeding Sam Able (Nation Geo). There are a number of Editors, both print and photo, that subscript to
the paper. The best thing about this paper, they are ALWAYS looking
for skilled photographers and it is easy to get your work in this
daily paper (it is the forth largest paper in Kentucky, this is a
knock on Kentucky more then anything else>GRIN<). If you go to one of the top schools like Univ of Missouri in Columbia,
you will get GREAT teachers, but there is alot more competition to get
printed. At UK, you will get the real day to day experience that a
real news paper photographer gets to deal with. If you would like to get the basic idea of what this paper looks like,
check out their web page, they put EVERY issue on the web!!!!! They
don't mess around with this stuff!!!! http://www.kernel.uky.edu/
