What is best lens and filter for golf course pix?

I have a Canon A-1 camera with 35-70 lens, plus a couple of other lens'. I would like to take some pix of several of the holes on the golf course that I play. I have tried early morning shots standing on tee, midday shots etc and the pix come out like snapshots. Can anyone give me advice as to what lens works best and/or filters to use, film speed, etc.? Or just plain tips on golf course photography.

You should post your question to rec.photo.equipment.35mm and you will get responses from some folks with a lot of photography experience. Obviously this is a group of folks with a lot of golf experience. There are probably a lot of people here that could tell you how to hit that A-1 with a driver and send it down the middle of the fairway about 320 yards! ;)

Now to your question....Early morning is good for the quality of the light. Try using a polarizing filter. I've also heard that Neutral Density filters can be helpful. (I believe they reduce the light and allow for a longer exposure which can provide more color saturation.) You might also try a longer lens. This can help to compress things a little and can have some very nice results. Use a tripod so you can use slower shutter speeds. If you're using print film you might try some slow speed slide film. With print film the photo lab will make a lot of shots look like snapshots regardless of what filters you use. Do not restrict yourself to the tee boxes. Look around for interesting compositions and study your past shots and learn from those.
