 | REAL learning Flexibility in New York And Excelsior College |
|
|
Anyone familiar with Excelsior College previously University of New York
Regent's College. I'm looking for a New York College that will allow me
to plan my own degree program drawing from classes taken at several state
universities.
Most of these so-called invidualized degree programs have heavy residency
requirements, which do not allow for much flexibility in courses.
Anyone know of such a beast? Or have experiences, pro or con with the
aforementioned College?

-This would be a good topic for the www.degreeinfo.com site. Most of the DL
experts who formerly perched on AED are now there. (It's a long story; the
short story is: AED is dead.) You can do a search at the web site and may
find your answer; otherwise, re-post your question there. -Excelsior has an excellent reputation. They do indeed have the sort of
flexibility you have described. You can gather credits from all manner
of sources, pool them there to earn a fully accredited degree. In
addition to accepting credit from other accredited institutions, they
offer credit by examination, portfolio and for some professional
certifications. They are very much in the business of guiding you toward
your goal. A couple of other, equally regarded, though not in New York, sources you
might want to investigate are Thomas Edison State College (TESC) and
Charter Oaks State College (SOSC). Each has similar programs.
