I am looking for a good photojournalistic photographer who does mostly
black and white stuff for a wedding New Jersey. Any suggestions? Does
anybody know if it is cheaper to find someone in NYC where there is a
greater supply of creative people? What should I expect to spend?
---------------------
NYC has a greater suppy of people, and along with it one of the highest
costs of living in the country. I have never "shopped" for a Wedding
photographer in the Big Apple, but based on my business background, and
many unhappy couples posting, NYC is most likely the most expensive market
to find a Wedding photographer in. Based on what you want, I'd consider contacting a few schools who offer
photography classes, and maybe hire a couple of students. Make sure they
are not in photo 101, have experience shooting people, and have a
reasonable amount of gear to do a good job. I suggest more than one because
Wedding photography is just not that easy, and you have to get it right the
first time. Hiring 2 or 3 will improve your odds at getting good shots if
one photographer having a bad day (or life). Another option is to contact a Newpaper, and see if they will supply a list
of working photojournalists. One warning. Most photojournalists are NOT
going to have much if any experience posing people, and doing studio type
lighting setups. You may not care about that, but then again I get many
people who come to me with the "the candids are more important to me"
attitude. But when it comes down to it, Formals is what they reorder, and
choose to display along with a few candids.
